New York City Housing Court & Landlord Tenant Court Information

In New York City, Housing Court and Landlord Tenant Court are actually the same court. This court is often referred to by both names interchangeably. In Housing Court Landlords can seek to evict their tenants by commencing either a Nonpayment eviction action or a Holdover eviction action. Tenants may demand that their landlords perform necessary repairs by either counterclaiming against their landlord in the landlord's eviction proceeding or by commencing what is commonly known as a tenant initiated HP action. Please see the links in this site which explain each of the three mentioned actions and the defenses to Non payment and Holdover proceedings.

Due to the fact that tenants' homes are at stake in Housing Court proceedings, all tenants are urged to consult with and obtain attorneys to represent them in vindicating their rights and protecting their homes..

Our General Information Line to schedule a complimentary-no obligation consultation for all Housing Court and Eviction Cases is 212-921-1600.
